Weekly Wishlist: Owl Obsession

I have a thing for birds when it comes to home decor. The Portlandia skit could have been written about me.

Lately, my bird fetish can be defined more specifically to an owl obsession.

It’s okay for an adult to make a stuffed animal for herself, right???

The little guy came home with me. He’s the first “blingy” addition to our master bedroom update. Yay!

Pier 1 completely understands (and fuels!) my owl obsession! I came across these tips after I found that mug. And they even have a Pinterest Board dedicated to owls!

Glad I’m not alone in my feathered fetish! 🙂  Do you get on character kicks when you’re decorating your home?

Purple Hearts Yellow

Remember the fabric sneak peek I posted a few weeks ago?

And the new placemats I recently made?

Well, I finally finished my latest yellow creations!

The two 16″ x 16″ pillows on each end are Premier Prints Chipper Slub in Corn Yellow; the two 12″ x 16″ pillows in the center are Premier Prints ZigZag Slub in yellow/white. I found both of these fabrics, plus the Premier Prints Suzani Slub in yellow/white that I used for the placemats, at Fabric.com.

And finally, the whole family together:

I love the spunky, modern cheerfulness of these prints. And I’m loving the bold statement they make in our family room!

Weekly Wishlist: Neon

Neon is definitely not part of the current color palette in my home, but that won’t stop me from loving these hot home-decor picks!

These bowls caught my eye a few weeks ago. They conjure up daydreams of a chic beach-side barbeque, complete with freshly made mojitos and homemade guacamole.

For a smaller splash of neon, these coasters would be a great choice. I can picture them on my outdoor table, cozying up to a cold glass of sangria.

I’ve had a thing for chevrons lately. So when I spotted chevrons in a variety of neons, I knew I was in love!

If you’re a little nervous about adding even small splashes of neon throughout your home, start with your closet! A neon top, belt, or even a fresh coat of nail polish in a vibrant hue gives you the freedom to test it out without a ton of commitment.

What’s on your wishlist this week?

Weekly Wishlist

Lately, I’ve been admiring the Pouf Trend, and specifically, the Moroccan-style leather poufs. Whenever they pop up on Joss and Main, which is often, I gaze longingly at the array of colors and toy with the idea of adding one to my cart. The only problem is that I have no idea where I would put one in our house. I’m starting to convince myself that it would be a great stand-in for an accent table between the two accent chairs in our family room, but I’m not sure Tom’s on board with that idea yet.. So, I guess I’ll continue to dream for a while! In the meantime, I’ve pulled together a few different poufs for your viewing pleasure. Let’s start with a traditional style…

Lookin’ sassy in metallic! Moroccan pouf by John Derian Company

Or, you can go for a different shape and fabric all together! I like that this feels like a modern evolution of a bean bag chair. And the print is pretty amazing, too.

A fabulous grey and ivory print at West Elm

If you prefer a more traditional ottoman, why not get one that doubles as storage? I’ve seen some that come with built-in pockets for shoe storage. Sounds like a perfect accent for a custom closet or dressing area! (and yes, I’m hoping to add one to my closet someday)

Fashionable and functional? How nice! This beauty was found at Joss and Main

Instagram Friday

Just thought I’d capture a few little characters around the house, inspired by the new ones we added to the mix last weekend.

Funny story about these ladies — I was actually in Moscow in 2010, but had no opportunities to go shopping or see the sights (even though I was staying a mile away from Red Square). I didn’t even have the chance to browse the airport shops. Later that year, my parents were in Alaska, and found this Matroyshka set in an authentic Russian store. So she bought them for me as a “consolation prize” for not getting to shop for my own set in Moscow!

I bought a set of these tea light birdies on clearance at Pier 1 a few years ago. They were too cute to pass up, and the price was great!

Have a wonderful weekend! I am planning some crafty projects, so check back in next week to see how they turned out!
