Weekly Wishlist: Blingy Bedroom

Given the recent fashion trend toward “flashy neutrals” (which I’m completely in love with, by the way), I figured why not apply this same attitude to home decor? I’ve been dreaming of a flashy neutral master bedroom makeover for a while. Metallics, especially in bedding collections, seem so chic and calming, and I can’t imagine anything more perfect than falling into a cool, crisp, shimmering bed after a long day at work.

We were roaming through Macy’s Home department over the weekend when I spotted this collection. I love these tone-on-tone interlocking rings:

And then I nearly made a scene over this shimmery white collection by Martha Stewart. The floral-y inspired print on the duvet is embroidered with a silvery metallic thread. I highly suggest clicking on the link so you can zoom in on this one. The pillow shams in the very back feature a delicate lacy-like detail that is absolutely beautiful. I think my dreams would truly be sweeter if I laid my head down on these pillows every night!!

We’re not really in the market for a whole new bedding collection, but maybe we could swing a metallic armchair like this one. (I’ve seen this pop up recently on Joss and Main!)

If all else fails, how about some new hardware for a dresser or nightstand?

Best Dresser-est

After my recent crafting adventure, I had the itch to do more plate- and bowl-painting. So I thought I’d paint up a few pieces to keep my perfumes organized.

I picked up a variety of white  porcelain appetizer-sized plates and small dip bowls at Pier 1 (the bowls were $1-$2 each! can’t beat that!). I chose to use silver paint leftover from my last project.

Loving polka dots right now!

And the look of a gilded the edge on a small scalloped bowl…

Here are a few “glamour shots” of the finished products:

They add a nice touch of “bling” to my dresser. We’re kind of at an impasse about how to decorate our bedroom, so in the meantime, I’ll just accessorize with a few little things!

Feathered Friends

My mom has always liked hummingbirds, and she has multiple feeders around their backyard. So it was no surprise when she gifted me a feeder for my birthday in June. I finally got the feeder outside last week, and ever since, it’s been the hottest hangout in the neighborhood!

My husband and I spent a good deal of time this past weekend watching 3 different hummingbirds hang out / dive-bomb each other on the feeder! I managed to snap a few shots with my iPhone, but I wish the feeder were closer to our patio door so I could get some more detailed pictures.

I think this first little gal is my favorite. She looks like she’s still got some fluffy baby down feathers:

Maybe I should get another feeder, but I think they’d still dive-bomb each other. It’s pretty funny to watch them zip around the yard. But also a little dangerous if you’re outside – they zoomed right past my head a few times!

Weekly Wishlist: Neon

Neon is definitely not part of the current color palette in my home, but that won’t stop me from loving these hot home-decor picks!

These bowls caught my eye a few weeks ago. They conjure up daydreams of a chic beach-side barbeque, complete with freshly made mojitos and homemade guacamole.

For a smaller splash of neon, these coasters would be a great choice. I can picture them on my outdoor table, cozying up to a cold glass of sangria.

I’ve had a thing for chevrons lately. So when I spotted chevrons in a variety of neons, I knew I was in love!

If you’re a little nervous about adding even small splashes of neon throughout your home, start with your closet! A neon top, belt, or even a fresh coat of nail polish in a vibrant hue gives you the freedom to test it out without a ton of commitment.

What’s on your wishlist this week?

Wild Thing

After 7 weeks, it has become pretty clear that I did not give my garden enough space. While my father has always told me that plants grow better when they’re closer together, I think my makeshift square-foot method was too close.

Case in point:

It’s outta control!

The zucchini squash and cantaloupe in front have just started growing under the netting fence. Due to some recent rough winds from a storm, the tomatoes are all leaning precariously forward. The netting fence doesn’t seem to be doing much good at this point! Although maybe it’s keeping the deer and rabbits at bay? I’ve seen plenty of each in our yard, but none of the plants appear to be chewed up or missing from our garden (would I even notice at this point? If they were just nibbling here and there??)

Oh well, even it if looks a bit unruly, the veggies are growing! Tomatoes are cropping up, a few cucumbers are tucked under the leaves, and, what I’m most excited about… a cantaloupe! A baby melon on the vine!

Wahoooooo! I rationalized that if I got one edible melon out of this plant, it’ll have paid for itself, haha!
