Oh, Deer!

Ever since we first scoped out our lot, we’ve seen a lot of wildlife in the area. From turkeys to deer to tree frogs, there’s all kinds of stuff out there!

Lately, we’ve seen twin fawns hanging out in our backyard. But this past weekend, we got a pretty close-up view of them, and figured out who’s been nibbling at our landscaping!

This was taken from our side yard – I was having a staring contest with them! They were only about 15-feet away from me!

Weekly Wishlist: Owl Obsession

I have a thing for birds when it comes to home decor. The Portlandia skit could have been written about me.

Lately, my bird fetish can be defined more specifically to an owl obsession.

It’s okay for an adult to make a stuffed animal for herself, right???

The little guy came home with me. He’s the first “blingy” addition to our master bedroom update. Yay!

Pier 1 completely understands (and fuels!) my owl obsession! I came across these tips after I found that mug. And they even have a Pinterest Board dedicated to owls!

Glad I’m not alone in my feathered fetish! 🙂  Do you get on character kicks when you’re decorating your home?

Grow Local!

This weekend I attended the Ohio Valley Greenmarket at one of Hamilton County’s local parks, Glenwood Gardens. The Greenmarket was a collaboration between the Park District and Edible Ohio Valley magazine. It featured local vendors, talks on native gardening, growing organic, conservation and more. You can read more about Edible Ohio Valley magazine and the event here.

The sky was cloudy, the air was hot, but the turnout was great! My mom came with me, and we had a nice time strolling past the booths, talking to some of the vendors, sampling some delicious treats and learning more about sustainable efforts around town.

I came away with a few spoils of the day: some delicious herb mixes from The Spice and Tea Exchange. One is the “Tuscany Blend” and the other is the  “Coastal Blend” (heard it’s great on seafood!). I also picked up some fresh-baked sweets and savories from a local bakery, including a fresh baguette loaf, a chocolate chip croissant, and two blueberry scones. Yum!

Hope you all had a fun-filled weekend! Did you partake in any locally-focused activities?

Town and… Country?

Ok, we don’t really live in the country, but we do live a decent distance from downtown Cincinnati.

Anyway, I thought I’d send you all into the weekend with a few shots from around the city and around the “country”…

Cincinnati’s Carew Tower (it was a model for NY’s Empire State Building).

This view could make you dizzy!

Third time must be the charm. I’ve successfully killed at least 2 basil plants in my life. This one, however, appears to be thriving (hope I didn’t just jinx it!).

Homemade Caprese salad with fresh-picked basil (best enjoyed with a glass of a nice, chilled white).

Hope you have a fun weekend planned! I’m hoping to finally make some progress on my gallery wall project for our family room.

Purple Hearts Yellow

Remember the fabric sneak peek I posted a few weeks ago?

And the new placemats I recently made?

Well, I finally finished my latest yellow creations!

The two 16″ x 16″ pillows on each end are Premier Prints Chipper Slub in Corn Yellow; the two 12″ x 16″ pillows in the center are Premier Prints ZigZag Slub in yellow/white. I found both of these fabrics, plus the Premier Prints Suzani Slub in yellow/white that I used for the placemats, at Fabric.com.

And finally, the whole family together:

I love the spunky, modern cheerfulness of these prints. And I’m loving the bold statement they make in our family room!
