I’ve gotten to the point in the summer where I want to clear out my closet and start fresh with all new pieces. But of course, this isn’t practical, nor would I actually do it. But it’s nice to dream about, right? And whenever I start dreaming of ways to refresh my wardrobe, I immediately turn to jewelry and accessories. A pair of jeans and a plain tee can take on so many looks just based on the accessories you pair them with! Being an only child, I think I’m equal parts mommy’s girl and daddy’s girl. I have plenty of great memories of my childhood “helping” my dad around his garden or washing the cars (i.e. playing in the hose). In the summers, when he got home from work, we’d play wiffle ball in the backyard, or go to our local putt-putt course for a round of mini-golf and an ice cream cone. When I started taking horseback riding lessons, Dad was always the one to drive me to the barn and watch my lessons. When I was in junior high, he taught me how to play real golf (sorry for all those times I lost my temper due to bad swings!). And still today, he teaches me about gardening, about family, about history, and about patience.

Much as I prefer seeking out special gifts for my Mom for Mother’s Day or her birthday, the same goes for Dad. He’s never been a “tie guy”, so it’s always a fun sort of “challenge” to come up with special gifts for Dad!

I honestly don’t know who I’d be today without my mother. She’s always been a role model, a mentor, a discipliner, and a friend. Even at 29, I still rely on my mom for so much, to teach me to sew, to tell me how to get stains out of clothes, and even to take care of me when I’m sick.
