Weekly Wishlist: Quirky Quartz

A few weeks ago, I came upon some really unique accessories via Bliss Home and Design, an interior design and furnishing store. As impatient as I am to just get stuff done when it comes to furnishing and decorating our home,  I am also perfectly willing to hunt high and low to find the perfect accessory that I cannot live without. As a kid, I never wanted to go home for dinner or bedtime because I was so afraid I’d miss out on something. I think that same feeling creeps over me when I’m working on a home project. I don’t want to overlook the perfect accessory because I was too impatient to check this store or that website.

So, when I saw these beauties from their Mineral Collection, I knew that I’d be willing to shell out some bucks just to be able to plant one of these on top of a console table, bookshelf or mantle. Hubba, hubba. (sorry, no idea where that came from!)

In true Emily fashion, I haven’t committed to one just yet, because I’m holding out for the right mineral, at the right time, for the right room 🙂

Weekly Wishlist: Neutral + Metallic Vases

::whew:: It’s been a crazy week! I am very glad that tomorrow is Friday! Not only do we have some fun plans to look forward to on Saturday, but it means I get a slight reprieve from work. I’ve been very busy for the last few weeks, which means all personal projects take a backseat… like blogging and crafting and nail painting (yes, I consider nail painting to be a full-blown project), and even everyday tasks get put aside, like cooking and laundry and dishwasher-emptying (darn).

Anywho, these pretty vases made me smile, and dream of places where I could display them. And I realized this neutral + metallic theme was appearing, so I just went with it!

Weekend Update

I know I don’t normally post on the weekends, but we did some fun DIY projects that are coming your way this week –  call this a “teaser” if you will. What does this week have in store? A seasonal front porch reveal, and a side table makeover for under $40!

Stay tuned!

Now, I am off to enjoy what remains of the weekend with some football, coffee and a heaping bowl of this hot-out-of-the-oven apple crisp…

Oh. Yea. This totally makes for my failed attempt at sweet potato fries tonight.

Autumn Mantel Makeover

Thought I’d pop in today to share the seasonal spruce-up I gave to my mantle (and a bookshelf) last night! I was inspired by some of the ideas I found yesterday through The Lettered Cottage Fall Decorating Link Party. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you should! There are plenty of cute, clever and creative ideas to be found!

I literally cut these sticks out of a smaller, dead tree in our backyard. We’re planning on taking it out, so we might as well put it to use for decorating! The vase fillers were in a set decorative fillers I bought a few years ago. I think I got them at Michaels.

If you haven’t already guessed. I LIKE SPARKLY THINGS! The mercury glass candle holder was part of a set of 3 from Kohl’s earlier this year (snagged ’em on clearance for $6! So I got 2 sets). The brown tealight holder probably came from Michaels (I’ve had it for a few years).

Most of the items I used are things I already had, like the hurricane vase (Bed, Bath & Beyond, circa 2007). I just switched out the usual candle for acorns. The metallic pumpkin is new – Michaels had all of their fall accents for 50% off last week! Booyah! The gold pumpkin and glittery crow above (I’m calling it a raven in honor of Edgar Allan Poe) were also sale finds from Michaels! The purple glass spikey things were made by my cousin, who’s a glass artist.

Here’s one last shot of the whole mantle:

Now, on to the bookcase! I’ve been struggling with what to do with this space. I think I’m happy with this arrangement. But that doesn’t mean it won’t change 😉

Aren’t those flowers pretty? The color palette is so perfect for this time of the year, and I think they do a nice job of complementing my Subway Canvas. Check out how I made it here.

I just love that Scentsy owl warmer! And the Caramel Pear Crisp scent inside isn’t bad either!

Well, that about covers my mantle and bookshelf makeover! Hope you like it!

PS- Sorry that these photos are a bit grainy – I took them with my phone… and it was dusk, so the lighting wasn’t the best. I was too anxious to blog about my makeover to wait for the weekend, i.e. the benefit of natural daylight. Sorry. I’m impatient. I’m trying to work on it. Especially since my impatience is constantly at odds with the care and detail that needs to go into things like drilling holes in walls and painting…

*Update – I linked this post up to Centsational Girl’s Autumn Mantle Party. There are soooo many great ideas! I wish I had more mantles in my house!

Weekly Wishlist: Autumn Accents

It’s beginning to look a lot like… Autumn! In preparation for the changing of the seasons, I’ve pulled together some home accents that really set the mood for crisp nights, hot cider and weekends spent watching football.

The natural texture of these candle holders feel perfect for fall. Check out their shop for more sizes and shapes. With so many options, you could create a nice little arrangement on a mantle, shelf, or even a table centerpiece.

These felted acorns would look so cute collected in a dish or bowl, or even just casually scattered on a table. The plum and chartreuse palette is a fresh take on traditional reds, oranges and yellows. (And would perfectly match my family room, wink, wink).

I ADORE this wreath – the raven totally makes it. And makes me want to read some Poe.

You knew there had to be an owl in here, right? 😉 Love me some owls!

These pumpkins are so fun! I have so many visions for my front porch this season… I think I need to make some room for some painted pumpkins! Imagine the possibilities!

What’s on your wishlist this week? How do you incorporate Autumn elements into your decor? (I’m still working on this… my collection of Autumn decor is pitifully small… trying to do a few vignettes around the house without breaking the bank!)
