Just a little “Public Service Announcement”

CINCINNATI PEOPLES!

ANYONE IN THE SE INDIANA / NORTHERN KENTUCKY / SW OHIO REGION…

You DO NOT want to miss this weekend’s Crafty Supermarket event! There will be tons of awesome artists, curated handmade goods, and delectable local eats.

So get yourselfs to Clifton.

And maybe I’ll see you there!

Here We Go

No, I am not referencing the recent slogan of a popular light beer… we finally have some DIY-ing underway in our house! What, what!

All the planning, all the pinning, all the nagging, has led to wall paint and crown moulding being purchased this past weekend! To say I am excited is an understatement. And although we didn’t actually start one of these projects (painting) until 5pm Sunday night (better late than never, am I right?), the hallway between our kitchen and bathroom already looks loads better.

Here’s a little teaser photo for you.

Sorry about the terrible quality of this photo; this hallway is completely devoid of natural light, and it was probably about 10pm when I snapped it.

We’re a long way off from a “big reveal,” but progress is progress. Here, in short, is our current to-do list:

– paint kitchen, hallway and powder room

– install crown moulding in family room, dining room and foyer

– paint family room and foyer

– install bookshelves, storage and window seat in my office

– paint my office

Have you done any painting recently? Are you a bright-eyed-and-bushy-tailed painter? Or do you start on weekend projects when your weekend is nearly over?

Something Palette-able

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen this picture last week of some Behr paint swatches:

Well, we narrowed our choices to the following:

Behr Premium Plus Ultra in French Lilac

French Lilac for our kitchen, powder room and the hallway connecting the two. (This is quite a bit more purple-y than it looks in this swatch)

Behr Premium Plus Ultra in Natural Gray

Natural Gray for our entry foyer and family room.

Behr Premium Plus Ultra in Cathedral Gray

Cathedral Gray for my office (which is to the left of our entry foyer).

I’m pretty excited for our new colors to start showing up on our walls! I’m so tired of our boring builder-grade beige!

Paint-Your-Own Pottery

If you follow me on Instagram (@twopurplecouches), you may have seen this pic pop up a few weeks ago:

As part of my friend Katie’s recent bachelorette festivities, we painted our own pottery at a place called Color Me Mine. (I think it’s a national chain, so you may be able to find a location near you.)

It’s a pretty cool concept. The studio is stocked with all the supplies you need: pre-made pottery, paints, etc. You select whatever piece you’d like, paint it, and they fire it for you.

I was super-overwhelmed by all of the options offered, from plates and serving platters to teapots, bowls, vases, mugs, and more. And then there was a whole palette of paint colors, plus fancy techniques and accents you could add to your piece. I don’t think it helped that I consumed a large glass of champagne before we arrive. But just to be safe, I’d recommend going stone-cold sober. It would probably help you make decisions 🙂

I was originally going for a vase, but I have tons of vases and don’t really need another one. That’s when the bride-to-be pointed out the OWL options.

Sold. Give me one of those guys. Love ’em.

I like that he is 1) adorable, 2) colorful and 3) hidden storage!

I agree completely, Chip! (his name is Chip, btw)

DIY Easter Garland

DIY Easter Egg Garland by Two Purple Couches

I really loved how my Valentine’s garland turned out, so I whipped up an easy DIY Easter garland to make my mantel more festive.

I created eggs with felt and a variety of ribbon and the pom-poms with some fun multi-colored yarn. I picked up all of the supplies at my local craft store.

This would be super-cute with felt bunnies or chicks, too!

Here’s a shot of the garland and my Easter-ized mantel:

I think it’s pretty cute! And I love all of the bright, springy colors popping off our white mantel.
