Washi Tape Cards & Gift Wrap

washi tape craft

I often find myself in a bind when it comes to occasions that require (maybe not require, but look more favorably upon) greeting cards: I frequently forget to buy one. So recently I took inspiration from this pin to create my own card using washi tape. (Side note: washi tape is probably one of the greatest inventions of our time. Right up there with mobile phones and home espresso machines).

It’s simple. Just grab a piece of cardstock and cut it to your preferred size/shape. Then grab some rolls of tape and go nuts! Layer different tapes on top of each other to create unique patterns and color combos. Or just keep it simple, if that’s more your style. I added a paper flower and brad to my little handwritten birthday banner for some extra pizzaz.

As I was digging through my wrapper paper and gift bag options, nothing was really jumping out at me. So… back to the tape! A bit of craft paper, a few pieces of tape, and there you go = A nice little coordinating set 🙂

Feeling Wishy About Washi Tape?

Then I’ve got a round-up for you!

I’ve gotten several questions from friends who are wondering what’s up with washi tape (y’know, what do you *do* with it). So I’ve pulled some of my recent pins to help give you some ideas, in case you’ve been wondering the same thing.

Easy Gift Idea: Silver-Rimmed Bowls

diy lyrics on canvas

This is a super-simple diy that makes for a very easy gift idea. All you need is a small ceramic bowl, a paintbrush, and any paint of your choosing. I prefer metallics for this project, because it gives the look of a gilt edge and adds just a little bit of bling. Who doesn’t need a bit of bling?

Just paint the inside and/or outside edge of your bowl, let dry, and voila! A delightful little way to collect rings, earrings, perfume vials, lip glosses and balms, hair accessories, bracelets, office supplies, or any number of other small, loose items. I filled this one with hair bands to give to my friend for her birthday. I also use one to corral perfume and lip balm on my dresser.

I’m Kind of a Big Deal

Soooooooooooooooooo
Imagine my surprise as I (finally) sit down and flip through the pages of the July/August issue of HGTV Magazine and see this…

HGTV magazine July/August 2013 issue

Yup. That’s my project. HGTV MAGAZINE PRINTED MY PROJECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Commence dancing about and shouting “I’m in a magazine” at random strangers (true story).

holy crap!

Does this make me famous? Maybe not. Probably not.

But is it the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to me (after my 12-year-old self meeting her country music idol Bryan White)? Definitely.

Soooooo, yeah. Do I frame the whole page, or just this section of the page?
