Happy Monday! Today, I’m participating in my first Dare to DIY event, hosted by Two Twenty One, Decor and the Dog, Maybe Matilda, and Newly Woodwards! Today’s theme is “Be Thankful,” which is obviously fitting since Thanksgiving is just a few days away.
Weekend Recap: Crafty Supermarket Success!
Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend. The weather here in Cincinnati was pretty awesome (again). Not as warm as last weekend, but still full of sunshine and lightweight-jacket temps. These things make it so much easier to deal with the fact that it’s pitch-black outside by 5:30 p.m. Anywho, I had eagerly been awaiting this weekend for the Crafty Supermarket, an “indie craft show” featuring such awesomeness as is often found on Etsy or Pinterest. This was my first time, but it definitely won’t be my last. I snagged some awesome jewelry and paper goods by local/independent artists. Sorry for the grainy photos; I took them at night, with my phone.
1. chandelier crystal + bullet casing necklace by lily in flux / 2. earrings and 3. necklace by audreylaine collection / 4. gift tags and 2013 desk calendar (not pictured) by pinwheel print shop.
Did you go to the Crafty Supermarket? Or to another local crafty event of your choosing? Did you get a head start on your holiday shopping, unlike me?
The Stain Game
So I realize that house projects have been a little non-existant lately. Sorry. We’ve got so many in our heads, but time and funds don’t work on the same timeline. Wouldn’t it be awesome if they did?
One project we Tom finally did get around to was staining the deck. I felt like we were really tempting the Weather Gods by waiting until November, but it seems like it turned out okay! We had absolutely beautiful weather in Cincinnati last weekend – upper 60s (may have even hit 70 at one point!), sun, and clear skies, so Tom high-tailed it to Lowe’s on Sunday morning to pick up deck cleaner, deck stain, and brushes. He spent the entire day working. I cheered him on from inside the house, because somebody had to keep Molly company out of trouble.
Here’s a Before pic of the deck from the summer:
And After:
We used Olympic Maximum in Cedar Naturaltone. I like the way it turned out – much warmer-looking. And, no more rain soaking into the wood! The downside? It freezes on the surface! It’s going to be a fun winter navigating a slippery deck in order to potty train a puppy…. oh well! All part of the experience, right?
Now I can cross this one off the Things I’m Putting Off, But Desperately Need To Do list! Woohoo! Have you conquered a project lately that you were a little less-than-motivated to do? Here’s hoping that Pantry Reorganization comes next… (ugh).
Weekly Wishlist: Booksi Book Docks
I discovered these book docks by Rich Neeley Designs on Etsy a few months ago. He takes new and vintage books and turns them into docks for your iPhone, iPad, etc. How cool is that!?
His selection is a proverbial candy store for English majors: Shakespeare, Austen, Wilde, Bronte… sooooo many great titles to choose from. Bonus: they do custom orders, too! Don’t you think they’d make a great holiday gift for the classic-literature-loving-and-technology-savvy person in your life? (hint, hint).
Check out the Rich Neeley Designs Etsy shop here.
My blog has gone to the dogs…
Or… just this one. Allow me to introduce the newest member of our family! Molly is a 3-month-old Bichon-Shih Tzu mix. We brought her home on Monday. And we’ve been following her every move ever since!
Don’t let that sweet, sleeping pup fool you – she can be a real stinker!
So far, I think we’re all adjusting pretty well. But if you have any tips of what has or hasn’t work for you in house training or crate training, I’d love to hear them! (And, if my posts are kind of lax-slash-nonexistent over the next couple of weeks, you’ll know why!)
