Now that signs of Spring are actually starting to show (!!!), it was time to dust off my faux hydrangea-and-dahlia wreath for our front door. Only problem was, it felt like it needed something extra. Enter a super easy diy banner, inspired by my friend Lauren.
This wreath was one of my first crafty projects for our new home. It even pre-dates this blog! I love the bright yellows and pinks of the faux hydrangeas and dahlias, but it just felt like it was missing something. So I figured I’d spruce it up a little, and once I saw Lauren’s super-cute, super-trendy wreath, I knew exactly what mine needed!
(If you follow me on Instagram, you saw a few sneak peeks while I was working away)
A handful of wooden flags, a few coats of paint, a few coats of Mod Podge, some baker’s twine, and voila! I had a cheery little banner!
Because what’s better than a sweet little message to welcome you inside!?
I think I might start using our front door instead of our garage entry, just so I can enjoy this happy message on a daily basis.
I love it when the simplest projects give you the best results!

Oh my goodness, I LOVE this, Emily! It’s so fantastically springy and I absolutely love the wooden flags. Knowing my trendy wreath played a small role in this spruce up makes me giddy with glee. Also, guess what arrived yesterday? Your sweet package and note! Thank you, friend!

Aww, thanks Kim! I was originally thinking of painting them pink, but that shade of green was too good not to use!

Hi! I know your post was awhile ago but I’m hoping you can tell me the measurements of the flags you used. I really love this wreath and want to do one of my own but I can not find little flags even close this (unless they are super tiny). I even have looked for different materials and have had no luck. They are either too large or way too tiny. Anyways I was going to get some made but I have no idea what size to get! Thank you!!
Hi Rachael! The flags I used are about 2.25-inches by 3.5-inches. I think I found them in the seasonal section at the craft store (probably Michaels), but you might check the aisles with the chipboard/MDF shapes, or even on Etsy! I hope this helps!
Thank you!! I have looked at Michaels, Joannes, Hobby Lobby, Etsy, and a few other local craft places. The ones I have found have been either way to big or way to small. So I realized I would need to request someone on Etsy for something custom. I just didn’t know what size to request! Thank you for getting back to me so quickly!!
You’re welcome! I hope you’re able to get the sizes you want 🙂
You make working with a paint pen looks so easy! I forget to use mine. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you! Sometimes I find paint pens easier than painting with a brush 🙂
