Gold & Evergreen Christmas Tablescape

Beautiful holiday table idea! Use fresh, natural greenery and gold or brass candlesticks to create this simple yet elegant DIY evergreen Christmas tablescape.

Even though we aren’t hosting a holiday dinner this year, I still wanted to decorate our dining room. I had this vision in my head of a fresh evergreen centerpiece with brass candlesticks nestled between the branches and I had to bring it to life! Does that ever happen to you? I’d love to show you all the details of my glitzy gold and evergreen Christmas tablescape!

Every time I come across photos of a holiday table decorated with fresh greenery, I sigh a happy little sigh. This is a look I have wanted to try for years. So while we were picking out our Christmas tree a few weeks ago, I asked the guy at the tree lot how much they charge for the piles of clippings. He told me to take as much as I wanted, so I loaded up the trunk of our car with an assortment of evergreen branches and started planning out my Christmas tablescape.

I’m not going to share a tutorial for how I made my garland because it was kind of a figure-it-out-as-you-go project. I found a few tutorials online and used these as guidelines but had to do a bit of trial and error. I will suggest if you do ever make your own garland or swags, have a good, sharp pair of pruning shears and either work outside or put a sheet down to help mitigate the large mess of needles and twigs you’ll make on your floor. This is inevitable 😉

Once my garland was finished and set on our dining room table, I gathered up an assortment of brass candlesticks, gold, and white ornaments. You may remember these candlesticks from our most recent Swap It Like It’s Hot challenge. They were quite tarnished and layered with grime when they arrived in my Swap box, but now they are bright and shiny! I had to spend several hours with a soft cloth and a bottle of brass polish to get them cleaned up, but it was worth it!

I placed candles in the candlesticks and spaced them out amongst the evergreen garland. Then I tucked the ornaments into the branches. I finished off the tablescape with my favorite gold beaded placemats, simple white dishes, vintage wine goblets and the mini grapevine wreath napkin rings I made last year.

On the long wall behind our dining table, I replaced some art panels with my three ornament wreaths. I have a full tutorial on how to make them here.

I hope you enjoyed my evergreen Christmas tablescape! I am thrilled with how my first attempt at making a real garland turned out, and I love the way the ornaments and brass candlesticks mix with the texture of the greenery and the details on my vintage crystal goblets and glasses. All of the things I love wrapped up into one table!
