If you saw last week’s post about the garden party themed bridal shower I threw, then you caught a glimpse of the garden-inspired favors I made. (if you missed it, you can find the post here). Today I’m going to share how I made these seed packet favors with DIY chalkboard plant markers. They turned out so cute, and were so easy to create and put together.
You don’t need many supplies to make these chalkboard plant markers. Here’s what I used:
- small wood surfaces
- chalkboard paint
- craft sticks
- hot glue
See? I said these were super easy to create!
I picked up a bunch of these unfinished wood surfaces from Michaels. I love how versatile these are – they can be used for all kinds of projects. Plus, they’re inexpensive, coming in at about $0.30 a piece!
Here’s how I made the chalkboard plant markers:
I painted each shape with two coats of chalkboard paint. Once dry, I attached the craft sticks to the back using hot glue. Lastly, I seasoned each chalkboard surface by rubbing chalk across the whole shape, left-to-right then up-and-down.
Here’s how the finished plant markers look:
Once all of the chalkboard plant markers were made, I was ready to assemble the seed packet favors.
I picked up a bunch of different seed packets from my local Lowe’s, then added a seed packet, chalkboard plant marker and piece of chalk to each favor bag.
I folded the edge of the bag down, punched two holes and tied it shut with some twine and these cute garden tool embellishments I found at Michaels.
For the shower, I displayed the favor bags in a wood tray and placed them on our entryway console so guests could easily grab one on their way out. I made a quick sign to display with them that read “Spread the Love”.
I absolutely love how these turned out. The green and pink bags are so cheerful, and those garden tool embellishments added the perfect finishing touch!

These are absolutely perfect for a bridal shower I am throwing for my BFF in June! Quick question–where did you find the green and pink paper envelopes??
Thank you, Kim! I found the pink and green favor bags at a local specialty party store, but I have seen similar items on Amazon!
These are adorable, Emily!
