Cincinnati’s City Flea

the city flea, august

I think I’ve mentioned the City Flea before. But I also think I failed to mention exactly what it is, and how awesome it is.

City Flea defines itself as a “curated urban flea market.” And I think that’s a pretty good definition. While you’ll find plenty of vintage wares to thrift through, you’ll also find unique upcycled creations, hand-crafted jewelry, textiles, art, decor, delicious coffee and local food trucks.  All in the recently (and awesomely) revamped Washington Park in historic Over-the-Rhine and bordered by the inimitable Cincinnati Music Hall.

I’d also describe it as a pretty awesome way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

I so wanted to take one of those tiny flying pigs home. I didn’t quite feel like spending that amount of money ($45-$50 maybe?), but now I’m kicking myself. I love a bit of kitschy yard art here and there. And c’mon, flying pigs? I mean, I’ve lived in Cincinnati my entire life and do not have one single flying pig in my house. Which is a travesty. Or sacrilege. Or something equally offending.

One vendor’s cute way to upcycle a shutter – turn it into a jewelry or card-holder!

city flea, what i bought

My purchases: a sweet and subtly baseball-y shirt by Be Ohio Proud, and another Sadly Harmless/Sally Harless print, this one from her shadowbox collection.

I love this pachyderm’s message to take One Day at a Time. I need this reminder. Every day.

And I just realized that I never introduced you to my first Sadly Harmless/Sally Harless print: Knitting Narwhals. I mean, how do you say no to a print like this? It’s absurdly awesome. I smile every time I look at it. How could you not? I mean, there are narwhals and they’re knitting. Pure genius.

See? Everyone agrees.

And everyone wants to see you at the next City Flea. Mark your calendars: Sept 21st. Don’t tell me you can’t because you don’t live in Ohio. No excuses, people. No excuses.

What did you do this weekend?
